The vampire diaries are about Elena who returns to mystic falls after a holiday trip to Paris. Elena’s parents died in a car accident some months before the summer vacation. So Elena and her younger sister – Margaret were living with there aunt – Judith.

Elena has always been the popular and the most beautiful girl in the school. She has never had any problem by getting a boy´s attention. Never until the new guy, Stefan. He was a mystery, Elena had many times tried to get his attention but he really tried not to show that there was something about Elena that he desired.

In a flashback you discover that Stefan is a vampire who was turned in 1864. Stefan was turned by Kathrine, who Stefan was fallen in love with. But his big brother Damon, also had something with her, he said he loved her. Elena was a true doppelganger by Kathrine. 

At a homecoming dance Elena had a plan to get Stefan to dance with her. But then he shows up with Caroline, Caroline is Elenas old childhood friend who had become a rival to Elena because, Caroline wants to be the popular girl. Then she quits the plan and leaves with two from the football team – Tyler and Dick and Vickie. Then Dick and Vickie goes for them self. Tyler started to grab a round Elenas arm and tried to kiss her and more. Elena tried to get away but Tyler was to strong for Elena to push him away. Suddenly Tyler get pulled away from Elena and then she sees it was Stefan. Stefan punches Tyler but Elena makes him stop. Stefan drives her home to his house so she can clean her up.

Elena confronts Stefan to ask why he’s been avoiding her. His answer avoided the question, but then he kisses her. The next day Stefan was trying to break up with Elena to protect her from him self. Elena refuses.

Over some weeks Elena becomes concerned why Stefan has started to slowly move away from her and keeping secrets from her.

At a Halloween party Elenas history teacher is found dead. Stefan leaves and Elena follows him. She finds him up on a house roof with fangs, blood around his mouth and dead birds laying on the roof. Elena falls down the roof but Stefan catches her fast. Elena wants explanation, and Stefan tells her nearly everything, that Kathrine committed suicide and how he was turned and so on. Elena discovered that Damon.  Stefan’s brother, was the mystery guy who came and tried to kiss her.
